Commemorative Lotto stamps launched by National Lottery plc

Celebrating 100 years of Lotto

During a press conference at the Malta Postal Museum in Valletta, National Lottery plc in collaboration with MaltaPost plc launched a booklet containing six Lotto stamps commemorating the 100th year anniversary of the first Lotto draw. The designs of these stamps represent the evolution of the Maltese National Lottery and the evolution of the main lottery brand Lotto.

The first draw in Malta took place 100 years ago on 10th February 1923. During this time graphic communication in Malta was largely typographic. Over the years key symbols within the Lotto’s visual identity were clearly maintained and developed, particularly the blindfold and urn, representing motifs of impartiality and wealth. A century later, Lotto’s branding has been reimagined to fit the habits of an ever-changing society.

The event was addressed by the Chief Commercial Officer of National Lottery plc, Mr. Franco De Gabriele who expressed that operating the national lottery during this unique milestone is truly a privilege. “We are honoured and privileged to be operating the national lottery of Malta during this historic milestone. The cultural relevance of Lotto on the island since its inception 100 years ago, bestows upon us the responsibility of ensuring that this game retains its place as an intrinsic pillar of Maltese heritage.”

During the event Mr. De Gabriele announced that as from Wednesday 15th February, the commemorative booklet will be available for sale from National Lottery retail outlets. The commemorative booklet is a limited-edition print and will be available on a first come first served basis, until stocks last.

To commemorate the 100th year anniversary since the first lotto draw, National Lottery launched a new communications campaign that depicts the strong affinity that the Maltese public has always shown when selecting their lotto favourite numbers and how their numbers tend to relate to their personal experiences. The new campaign is entitled ‘Your Numbers Your Stories.”
