Paul Pogba to have medical at Manchester United ahead of move

Manchester United confirm that Juventus have given France international Paul Pogba permission to have a medical ahead of record-breaking €120 million move from the Italian champions

Paul Pogba’s long-awaited, much-expected return to Manchester United in the world’s first €120 million transfer deal is moving very close to become a reality after the France midfielder was given permission by Juventus to have a medical.

A statement on the United website - under the hashtag 'Pogback' - read: “Paul Pogba has been granted permission to have a medical in order to finalise his transfer from Juventus to Manchester United.”

The 23-year-old, who will undergo the medical at the club's AON Training Complex, had been on holiday in the United States while his agent Mino Raiola tried to broker the move for the France midfielder.

On Saturday, Juventus manager said there was “no point” in talking about a replacement for the France international, adding that he would be back in training with the club on Monday.

However, it now seems that Pogba is on the verge of a record-breaking move from Juventus to United in a deal that is expected to reach more than €120 million when agents’ fees are included, surpassing Gareth Bale’s €100 million move to Real Madrid in 2013.

Personal terms are still to be agreed with the French midfielder, although they are expected to be a formality.

United boss Jose Mourinho said on Friday he wanted the deal done by the time his side play their opening Premier League game at Bournemouth on 14 August.

In four seasons in Turin, Pogba, who helped France reach the Euro 2016 final, won four league titles.

He is Jose Mourinho's fourth signing at United, after Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

It is the first time in 20 years an English club has paid a world-record fee.

Pogba joined United from French club Le Havre in 2009 as a 16-year-old, but made just a handful of appearances before his contract expired in 2012.

Pogba made 178 appearances for Juventus, scoring 34 goals, and helped the club reach the 2015 Champions League final. The Serie A side had offered him a new contract, while Real Madrid were also interested in signing him.
