As the 2013/2104 swimming season drew to a close, swimmers from Sirens’ Development, Junior, Senior and Elite squads demonstrated their passion and commitment for the sport as they delivered amazing results time and time again.  Many swimmers achieved personal bests in every race and between the squad, almost 70 medals were awarded – 25 gold, 25 silver and 20 bronze.

Andrew Chetcuti powered down the pool to smash his existing national record with a new time of 23.45 for his 50m freestyle to massive cheers from fellow squad members and the crowd.

Our huge congratulations to all the swimmers who took part and, of course, thanks to our coaches, Catalin Stan, Lara Deguara and Iana Said for their ever present support on the poolside.  The fact that the swimmers were able to achieve such results at the end of a hard season is indeed a tribute to our coaches.

As well as watching Andrew Chetcuti swim, it has also been an honour for the squad to benefit from some of his Olympic training tips.  Andrew’s participation this year gave our swimmers a massive confidence boost, so our thanks also to Andrew and very best wishes for continued success.

It should also be remembered that Sirens’ success at Tal Qroqq follows an excellent performance by Jeremy Bugeja, Charis Ceccarelli and Kim Castelletti at the FISEC Games in Vienna, held just a few days before the Nationals.  Further accomplishments by Neeve Cauchi, Vanessa Nairalgas, Luke Grech Carr, Leah Tanti and Jan Culic are to be applauded as they gained entry into Malta’s prestigious National Sports School from September.

Sirens swimmers – and parents – now enjoy a brief respite before training starts again in August, but ample opportunity to celebrate these excellent achievements exist at various social events organised throughout the summer.
