Lady Gaga served with subpoena by Dr Luke in Kesha defamation case

Pop star Lady Gaga has slapped with a subpoena in the ongoing legal battle between music producer Lukasz Gottwald, better known as Dr Luke, and fellow singer Kesha, who has accused the former of sexual assault.

Kasha accused Dr Luke of "sexually, physically, verbally, and emotionally" abusing her, a New York judge eventually denying the singer an injunctive that would severe her professional ties to the record label head.

Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, was one of Kesha’s most vocal supporters during the initial legal battle in 2014 where Kesha sued the producer. Following the legal loss, Gaga took to social media to issue another statement in support of Kesha, asking: “Why is victim always the ‘liar'?"

On Saturday, Dr Luke officially subpoenaed Lady Gaga — a key player in the music producer’s ongoing defamation suit — for deposition regarding alleged texts that Kesha sent her accusing him of rape.

"In connection with Dr Luke's defamation claims against Kesha, various third parties are being deposed by both sides, including celebrities," Gottwald's rep said in a statement.

"Dr Luke's counsel served a subpoena on Lady Gaga because she has relevant information regarding, among other things, false statements about Dr Luke made to her by Kesha. This motion has become necessary because Dr Luke's counsel has not been able to obtain, despite repeated request[s], a deposition date from Lady Gaga."

Lady Gaga’s legal team has since responded, saying: “As Lady Gaga‘s legal team will present to the court, she has provided all of the relevant information in her possession and is at most an ancillary witness in this process.”

“Dr Luke’s team is attempting to manipulate the truth and draw press attention to their case by exaggerating Lady Gaga‘s role and falsely accusing her of dodging reasonable requests,” they added.
