Front Harsien ODZ commends Siggiewi council's stance on proposed motorsports track

The Front reiterated its stance that a call for expression of interest should not have been issued in the absence of studies on the environmental sustainability of such a huge project

Front Ħarsien ODZ has commended the stance of the Siggiewi local council against the development of a motor sport racetrack on an ODZ site known as San Niklaw close to Dar tal-Providenza.

"We are against any development on any non committed ODZ site irrespective of the location proposed and we reiterate our call on the government to exclude any proposals on undeveloped ODZ land in its call for expression of interest," the NGO said in a press statement.

The Front reiterated its stance that a call for expression of interest should not have been issued in the absence of studies on the environmental sustainability of such a huge project - the size of 100 football pitches - in a small island like Malta.

Should the government remains obstinate in issuing this call, the Front insists that all documents related to this call for expressions should be published in full to ensure maximum transparency.

The Front also called on other local councils where ODZ land may be earmarked for the development of a racetrack to join the Siggiewi local council in declaring their opposition to such developments.

In a Facebook post, Siggiewi mayor Karol Aquilina said that the decision against the development should not be guided by political affiliation.
