The Malta Developers Association (MDA) has asked the Planning Authority to extend the period during which submissions regarding the draft Paceville master plan can be made, the association said this morning in a media statement.

The MDA said that the master plan it is highly detailed and requires more time to be studied.

“This request was made following several representations made during meetings with a number of its members whose properties could be affected by the proposed master plan,” the MDA said.

The MDA had welcomed the Paceville master plan, saying that it considered the step taken by the Planning Authority to engage internationally known consultants to draw up this plan as “a positive one that needs to be repeated for other areas as well.”

While yhe developers’ lobby had said that the master plan has been carried out in a professional manner, it called on the Planning Authority to give great attention to its interpretation and implementation.

The MDA had also criticised the master plan for “failing to address the possibility of new projects that could involve existing buildings”, adding that the master plan concentrated too much on nine particular sites.

“Normally when there is such intense activity in such an area, many owners of existing properties are encouraged to renovate or rebuild their properties – a real possibility that is completely ignored in the Master Plan,” MDA chief Sandro Chetcuti had said.

The MDA expressed confidence that its request was going to be favourably considered.

It called for all those interested to put forward their submissions in writing.
