Verdict in trial on drug importation expected tomorrow

The verdict in a drug trial which opened on Monday is expected tomorrow, Thursday.

John Grima, 66 of St Julian's, is charged with importing one kilogramme of cocaine and 20 grammes of cannabis in January 2006 from the Netherlands.

The trial is being heard by Mr Justice Michael Mallia.

Grima, defended by Dr Joe Brincat, was allegedly found bringing in the drugs on his arrival at Malta International Airport from Amsterdam. The drugs were found in two decorative candles.

Dr Lara Lanfranco and Dr Elaine Mercica Rizzo from the Attorney General's Office claimed that the drugs had a street value of €75,000.
