Court discharges man involved in brawl with work colleague

A man is given a year's conditional discharge after admitting to slightly injuring his work colleague during a scuffle at their workplace last September.

Gerald Attard of Zebbug was conditionally discharged for a year after pleading guilty to slightly injuring his work colleague Johan Briffa.

At around noon on 24 September last year, the 33-year-old was involved in a brawl with his colleague at Baystreet Complex in St Julian’s where the two men work.

In the brawl Briffa suffered slight injuries.

The victim told the court that the two had not argued again since the incident and said that he had forgiven the accused.

Declaring he wanted to drop his charges his agressor, Briffa however asked the court for protection in order to guarantee there is no repeat of such behaviour.

The prosecuting inspector said that Attard had fully collaborated with the police, and admitted to the charges at the start of proceedings.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja gave the accused time to re-think his guilty plea. When Attard reiterated his admission, the magistrate conditionally discharged him for a year and imposed a protection order over Briffa, against a guarantee of €2,000.

Inspector Daryl Borg prosecuted.
