33 years after 41-year-old Freddie Fenech was shot dead in front of his wife outside his home, the mysterious murder is still unsolved and the perpetrators behind the gruesome crime are yet to be identified, Sunday newspaper Illum reports.

In its second analysis of the murder crime, Illum reports that back in 21st September 1980, Fenech’s wife, Mary, had noticed a vehicle following them. As soon as the perpetrators saw the couple’s car approaching, Mary Fenech recounts how the car, a Ford Escort, followed them until they arrived at the Fenech residence in Triq Misrah il-Barrieri, Santa Venera.

Inside the vehicle were three people.

Speaking to the Sunday newspaper, the widow explained that upon arriving at her home, a man had approached her and covered her eyes and mouth. It was at this moment when her husband was robbed and shot three times, two in his chest and once in his legs.

The victim, 41-year-old Freddie Fenech, known as Tas-Siment, died 45 minutes later of an internal hemorrhage as one of the bullets had punctured his liver and lungs.

In the second part of Illum’s reporting, Mary Fenech talks about her husband’s murder, her gruesome task of identifying her husband at the mortuary, and her unanswered questions.
