35-year-old suspected of heroin abuse is given medical assistance and regains consciousness

A 35-year-old man from Paola was given medical assistance earlier this afternoon after he was believed to be lying unconscious beneath the floodwater tunnels in Marsa.

He was spotted by a passer-by, who called for assistance.

RIU officers and district police arrived on site. Medical assistance was also summoned. The person was subsequently awakened by medical officers and then taken to Mater Dei Hospital for further medical treatment.

Police said drug paraphernalia lying nearby suggests the man was a heroin addict.
