Probation for drug addict who stole from his mother

30-year-old drug addict placed on probation for two years after he confessed to stealing €334 from his mother to buy drugs.

A 30-year-old addict has been placed on probation for two years after he confessed to stealing from his mother to sustain his drug habit.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke heard Matthew Falzon admit to the theft of €334 from his mother's Zabbar residence to buy drugs.

The court noted that Falzon had cooperated with police in their investigations and had demonstrated a willingness to address his addiction. It took this into consideration in its sentencing.

Early on in proceedings, Falzon’s mother had asked the court to place her under a protection order, but had later revoked this request.

Inspector Robert Said Sareo prosecuted.
