An innocent bystander was hospitalized earlier today after being struck by a car that veered off the road in Qawra.

It was simply a case of 'wrong place, wrong time,' for the 59-year-old Irish pedestrian when, at about 10:15 this morning, a man lost control of his Toyota Yaris, mounted the pavement and struck a tree and then the pedestrian.

The accident occurred in the area known at Ta' Fra Ben.

The victim is being treated for his injuries, which have been described as serious. The condition of the driver, an 80-year-old man from St Paul's Bay, is unknown.

Police investigations are ongoing.
