Two bailed after Isle of MTV fight

A Serbian and a British man pleaded not guilty to injuring two Spanish men during the music festival

Two foreign diving instructors have been released on bail after pleading not guilty to injuring two Spanish men, who had been defending a young woman, in Floriana in the early hours of yesterday morning. One man suffered grievous injuries in the incident.

In the second Isle of MTV-related arraignment today, Marko Knezevic, 33, from Serbia, and Jordan James Morely, 21, from Liverpool, pleaded not guilty to injuring the men.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras heard inspector Jeanne Farrugia explain how, after the Isle of MTV event in Floriana, Knezevic had unilaterally decided to fondle the bosoms of a Spanish girl. Her male friends intervened and a fight ensued, in which one Spanish man was grievously injured and the other man slightly injured.

Lawyer Arthur Azzopardi explained that the two accused are foreign diving instructors at the same dive school and that, in spite of living in the same block of flats as the Spaniards, did not know them.

The lawyer told the court that they had collaborated with the police without consulting a lawyer.

The court released the men on bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000 and a deposit of €300. It also placed the men under a curfew and issued protection orders for the Spanish girl and her two male friends, prohibiting the accused from contacting them in any way.
