Thieving barista jailed for two years for €4,000 theft

Puglia man, 42, entered Country Style cafe hrough a window he had left open on a previous shift and cleared the till, making off with over €4,000.

A 42-year-old Italian man was sentenced to 25 months' imprisonment Wednesday morning, after pleading guilty to stealing €4053 from a cafeteria where he worked.

Inspector Kurt Zahra charged Gian Nicola Cursoli, from Puglia, with the theft, explaining to magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera how Cursoli had been employed with Country Style in Birzebbugia.

On 3 August, Cursoli had allegedly entered the shop through a window which he had left open on a previous shift and cleared the till, making off with over €4,000.

Lawyer Mark Busuttil, appearing for Cursoli, entered a guilty plea, saying that the accused had used the money to pay his rent. He has also been dismissed from his job at the café.

Cursoli was handed a 25 month prison sentence.
