Ghanian man sentenced to six months in prison for assaulting AWAS employee

Aziz Issah had assaulted and threatened Ann Marie Pisani and her family in Marsa last February

A court has sentenced a Ghanaian man to six months in jail and deportation, after finding him guilty of assaulting and threatening an employee of the Agency for the Welfare of Asylum Seekers.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud heard how Aziz Issah had assaulted and threatened Ann Marie Pisani, Sam Mohamed and the couple's young daughter in Marsa last February.

Issah had failed to turn up for his arraignment on 7th March, for which he was found in contempt of court and fined €250.

Praising the efforts of the agency, Magistrate Mifsud said it was not right that people in this line of work end up threatened or verbally abused.

After serving his prison sentence, Issah will be deported.
