Serbian to be extradited on charges of crimes against humanity

A 49-year old Serb, living in Gzira for the past 11 years, is to be extradited to Croatia to face court proceedings over crimes against humanity committed between 1991 and 1993 during the Croatian War of Independence. Eror Gojko, a construction worker, faces charges of torture, kidnap, murder and the deportation of civilians to concentration camps and was issued with a European Arrest Warrant, which Malta will now honour.

Following the shocking results of an audit in the sector, new standards for elderly homes are being issued for public consultation. It is hoped that these national minimum standards become enforceable legislation.

Patients expect preferential treatment through POYC scheme

The newspaper reports that some patients, after having been tipped off by a contact within the health sector that a new stock of medication would have arrived, are putting pressure on pharmacists. These patients believe that a tip off entitles them to have their prescriptions filled first. Some pharmacists report indignation from patients who do not receive said medication because it is the pharmacists’ duty to distribute it equally and without preference.

Farrugia: From health to social solidarity?

Sources have informed L-Orizzont that current minister of health Godfrey Farrugia was offered a post in the ministry of the family and social solidarity during recent meetings called with ministers in Castille. After Coleiro Preca’s nomination to the presidency, a reshuffle has been anxiously anticipated, as MP Marlene Farrugia lamented on Facebook recently.

Dalli keeps future relationship with government under wraps

Having completed a report on the operations and management at Mater Dei, Dalli remained mum on the subject of the future of his relationship with the government. So far he has served as an adviser however with a reshuffle imminent, Dalli may choose to call it a day.

€80 million in funds for migration 

Funds for Asylum, Migration, Integration and International Security have been allocated to Malta through a vote in the European Parliament. Malta will receive €80 million between 2014 and 2020 via the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework. The government has not yet issued a statement on the EP’s decision
