‘With this government, it’s who you know, not what you know’ – PN

Deputy leader of the PN Beppe Fenech Adami criticized the government’s apparent disregard for its oft-repeated pre-electoral slogan ‘Malta taghna lkoll’, saying that a number of appointments to government posts were clearly based on political affiliation to the Labour party. Fenech Adami accused Muscat of spending millions in tax payer funds to support the largest cabinet the country has ever seen while unemployment rises.

L-Orizzont

This newspaper reports on the evolving case of the murder of Matthew Zahra, a story also carried by the other newspapers. A new witness to the case, Alfred Attard, testified in the case against Jason Galea and Ronald Urry, accused of murdering the 27-year old after he went missing in August 2012. Attard said that he was promised money in return for the use of his field and for his help in disposing of the body. He says he burnt Zahra’s corpse but kept his hands, insurance in case the promised cash was not forthcoming. He was also involved in the burying of the bodies of Mario Camilleri and his son Mario junior.

Ministers brace for reshuffle

The Independent speculates that today might be the day the reshuffle is announced, during the weekly Cabinet meeting. Speculation has been rife these past weeks as individual ministers were called to Castille for meetings with the PM. With Marie Louise Coleiro Preca’s post vacated once she takes up the presidency, Muscat is expected to use the opportunity to rearrange the Cabinet.
