In the Press: Mosta cat killer in court, Marsaxlokk wants to delay LNG decision

A report on the man accused of the Mosta animal crucifixions occupies most of The Times' front page as the island awaits a resolution to a mystery that has gone on for the past 14 months. Another report about the petrol station in Qormi, which has recently been given a temporary permit to operate. Ex-Mepa board member Giovanni Bonello condemned the issuance of the permit, saying that he faced aggression and threats from someone who identified himself as 'Gaffarena'.

Raymond Bugeja and his wife Gabriele presented befor ethe courts a letter urging MEPA to delay or suspend their decision on the storage of LNG in Marsaxlokk. Bugeja accused the Marsaxlokk Labour majority local council of not putting the residents' concerns first. In another report, Simon Busuttil met with European leaders at a summit of the European's People Party, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel

A man accused of hanging crucified animals around Mosta is brought before the courts. The 37-year old is pleading not guilty to harming the animals, which he says he found already dead in different towns in Malta. In other news, Secretary General for the General Workers Union Tony Zarb said that through solidarity, unions can overcome any obstacle. He was addressing the 2014 congress of Confederazione Generale Italiana del Lavoro (CGIL) in Calabria.

The so-called 'Mosta animal killer' made the front page of the Independent. The article reveals details about the accused, who was brought before the courts yesterday to face charges of animal cruelty, breaking in to churches, trespassing and slandering the Catholic religion. The other front page story is about current Enemalta workers and their future with the Shanghai Electric Power company, which has invested in Enemalta. Workers are faced with three choices; to keep working with Enemalta against new conditions, to work for Shanghai Electric Power (which may include having to work overseas) or to join Siemens Project Ventures GMBH which forms part of the ElectroGas Malta Consortium.
