The agreement between the Electrogas consortium and the government will be signed this week. This would seal the deal on a contract that would see the consortium providing for a substantial part of Malta's energy needs for the next 18 years. The delay in the construction of a new power plant posed a risk to otherwise positive growth projections in an EC report on the future of the local economy. Energy minister Konrad Mizzi made it clear, however, that the construction woul go ahead in line with Enemalta's business plan.

Over the last two years, the government has recevied 19 complaints about slurry dumping on agricultural land, according to Health Minister Konrad Mizzi. These included ten complaints in Malta, five in Gozo and four unconfirmed. When asked how the government intended to proceed, Mizzi said that a plan of action was being drawn up to guide investigations into the illegalities.

This newspaper reports that Finance Minister Edward Scicluna was unaware he had to declare his assets as a Member of Parliament, as outlined within the MPs code of ethics. Scicluna, in comments to the newspaper, first said that he had filed his declaration then said that he was unaware that he had to declare his assets as an MP as well as as a minister.

The investigation into GreenMT and the monies it received from the government between 2011 and 2012 has raised concerns among companies that form part of the waste collection scheme. These companies may be called upon to make good on GreenMT's payments. The investigation revealed that the previous government had given the company substantial funding in an effort to pull it out of the financial crisis it found itself in.

Five Labour MPs and the Prime Minister have filed their declarations of assets. This leaves ten other MPs that have still not filed their declarations as of yesterday.

A front page story reports on an RTK radio program during which Mgr Anton Gouder spoke about a shocking case of four teenage girls daring one another to get pregnant by the same man. He took the opportunity to question the values being passed on to youth and the lack of morality that is resulting in such cases.
