Cable fault leads to power cut in various localities

The power cut occurred at 4.45 am but was restored within 40 minutes.

Early on Sunday morning, Enemalta employees intervened to restore electricity supply to several localities, following a major cable fault near the Marsa Power Station.

The disruption was caused by a joint failure in a 33kV cable leading from the Marsa Power Station to Santa Venera, at 4.45 am. The affected areas included parts of Mrieħel, Qormi, Balzan, Lija, Attard, Birkirkara, Santa Venera, St. Julian’s, Paceville, Gzira, Sliema and San Gwann.

Enamalta said that within 40 minutes, all localities were reconnected to the network as the team at the Enemalta Network Control Room and other employees worked to switch supply to an alternate cable.

Enemalta regretted any inconveniences caused and expressed its gratitude towards its employees for their swift action.
