Construction magnate Nazzareno Vassallo is denying charges of perjury, exhibiting forged minutes of meetings and of giving a false affidavit. The anomalies in evidence and exhibited court documents first came to light during a civil suit calling on Vassallo to pay €208,000 in damages to Avantgarde Limited.

An internal inquiry will be held after the start of the summer school programme, with over 10,000 children enrolled, was postponed by a week after educators threatened to strike over a severe shortage of staff.

Shocking images have come to light, showing the pitiful state the St Vincent de Paule kitchens are in. An inspection in May had given the premises an 'F' classification, the lowest possible rating. Junior minister Justyne Caruana yesterday announced that the building would be torn down and replaced by a state-of-the-art kitchen.

Several enforcement orders issued on illegal structures at Montekristo Estates refer to sites outside the trade fair area, according to company officials. The car park and other structures are under enforcement notices but there are no illegalities related to the trade fair and its license to operate.
