The announcement that Wenzu Mintoff, a Labour activist and editor of the Kullhadd newspaper, will be sworn in as a judge today has drawn criticism from experienced lawyers and the PN. The former say that Mintoff lacks the necessary experience the post requires while the latter say that his appointment weakens the integrity of a post that is meant to be free of partisan bias.

Students in Junior College and University are still waiting for their exam results as the stalemate between lecturers and the government over the collective agreement looks to continue. Up until 9 July, UMASA had not received any communication from the government and so has directed lecturers to withhold all exam results, save those of final-year students.

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Vella said that while the situation in Libya requires constant monitoring, it is not yet necessary to consider evacuation. There were reports that suggest that, should the situation escalate further, Egypt and Algeria may intervene in the conflict.
