Mediterranean Film Studios LImited has lost a lengthy court battle with the government over unpaid rent and has been ordered to vacate the Rinella film facilities within 40 days. The property will revert back to government ownership and is set to become a hub for services related to the film industry.

A flight departed from the Mitiga military airport yesterday, delivering around 70 Maltese citizens out of the increasingly unstable area. Arriving in the afternoon, the government said the chartered flight was a relief flight, not an evacuation. Passengers aboard the flight reported growing tensions around the Tripoli airport area.

PM Joseph Muscat yesterday took questions at the London School of Economics, as part of a four-day tour of the UK. Muscat compared the Commonwealth to an ailing patient that could fade away entirely within a decade. He also said that to the younger generations, the sentimental relevance of the Commonwealth was diminishing.

Silvio Parnis, chairman for the consultative council for the south of Malta, yesterday announced on that a clean-up of the south of the island was being discussed by a specially set up committee. Parnis suggested that contractors could pay off debts they owed the government by taking on the restoration of old buildings and bastions in the area.
