Sliema residents had a chance to voice concerns over the rising incidence of crime in their locality yesterday, at a well-attended meeting with the Home Affairs minister. Residents called for an increased police presence and the installation of CCTV to deter theft and vandalism, of particular worry to the elderly in the area.

Two prisoners in the process of appealing their sentences returned to Corradino yesterday in a state of inebriation after celebrating the Hamrun feast of San Gejtanu. According to Opposition Speaker for National Security Jason Azzopardi, the two were meant to be working in the Hal Tarxien local council but took the afternoon off to celebrate.

Following Saturday's incident involving the helipad at St Luke's Hospital being blocked off by a vehicle, this newspaper carries an image of the Malta Enterprise car park, which sit adjacent to the helipad. Ever since Malta Enterprise moved to the building in 2010, cars in the car park have had to be removed every time the helicopter needs to make a landing.

Fr Emanuel Camilleri, the former Mgarr parish priest who was dismissed from his post, said that his dismissal came about after a small group of extreme traditionalists put pressure on the Archbishop and Auxiliary Bishop to have him removed. Camilleri spoke out after a report carried in the L-Orizzont newspaper claimed he had decided on his own to be appointed parish priest.
