Tuesday's power cut dominates today's front pages as images released by Enemalta illustrate the damage caused when a damaged cable triggered an explosion in the Marsa distribution centre. Some parts of the island remained without power for some 18 hours as technicians struggled to repair hte equipment.

49-year old Emanuel Schembri has been charged with molesting his former partner's daughter, who was nine years old at the time. The presiding magistrate denied his lawyer's request for bail as well as a ban on the publication of his name, citing the fact there were already pending sex abuse charges against him.

Former Chief Justice Hugh Harding passed away yesterday at the age of 88. Only the day before, Harding's wife Marian passed, aged 85. Harding served as Election Commissioner for three general elections and once as Referendum Commissioner, as well as having lectured at University.

The power cut on Tuesday evening caused nationwide inconvenience but for stargazers, it offered a golden opportunity. With most of the island in darkness, those looking to spot 'shooting stars', part of the Perseid meteor shower, had only to look up to see a blanket of stars that are usually drowned out by light pollution.

Former parish priest Emanuel Camilleri was on the receiving end of accusations that he sowed suspicion among and antagonised parishioners. In a letter to this newspaper, the Mgarr Feast and Cultural Committee called Camilleri a 'de facto dictator' and criticized what they called 'unacceptable behaviour'.
