Recruitment in the public sector has become a cause for concern for economists and employers. The Malta Employers' Association director general Joe Farrugia said that financing the uptick in public sector jobs may prove problematic.

The Malta Union of Teachers has called on the government to carry out the necessary repairs on laptops given to educators in government schools so they can be used again. The MUT released a statement saying that should the maintenance not be forthcoming, it would consider issuing directives to its members.

A Phoenician vessel may be one of the oldest dicsoveries made in Maltese waters after being found by a team from the University of Malta in collaboration with the University of Marseille. The wreck was discovered, using specialized equipment, at a depth of about 120 metres, following several months of preparation.

A Qrendi kennel owner is set to face several charges after Animal Welfare officers found a number of welfare infringements. Neighbours complaining about the noise and smell emanating from the property were joined by dog lovers reporting that inbred and sickly animals were being sold. Other charges include selling animals without a license and keeping some in poor conditions.
