The government's controversial decision to allow finch trapping in the autumn will be met with fresh EU legal action. The Commission still needs to decide whether action will be taken in October or in November, which would put Karmenu Vella in charge of the decision to pursue legal action.

The local council of Ta' Sannat in Gozo has not met since 11 August, putting it in breach of local council laws. This newspaper reports that the cause of this delay in meeting is being investigated by the local council Board of Governance.

Ex-EU Commissioner John Dalli has accused OLAF and its collaborators with sustaining a 'desperate attempt' to undermine conclusions reached by independent observers, namely that Dalli was subject to false accusations.

Karmenu Vella, who is due to face the European Parliament today, said that he voted in favour of EU accession, however this newspaper reports that he was campaigning against it just ten days before the crucial vote, appearing on a debate program on television alongside George Vella.
