In the Press: Application submitted for four high-rise towers in Mriehel

The Tumas and Gasan groups have submitted an application for four high-rise towers to be built in Mriehel. The area had been included in the localities considered for high-rises by stealth, between the time the policy was submitted for public consultation in late 2013 and the policy's approval in June.

Acting Police Commissioner Ray Zammit said that he did not believe that decriminalizing simple possession of drugs would increase their use among youths. Zammit did however express concerns that the police would lose an important source of information on trafficking practices, should the reform go through.

An unnamed Labour 'activist' was the cause of delays on the Gozo ferry service last weekend, after he refused to move his car according to the crew's orders. The police had to intervene to get the individual to cooperate, resulting in a half hour delay in the service.

GWU secretary Tony Zard, speaking at a summit for European trade unions in Rome, said that the current austerity model has reached its limits and that workers, pensioners and youths should not have to pay for a financial crisis they did not create.

A Dutch man accused to raping a Maltese woman claims that the two shared a consensual relationship, which involved her sending him intimate texts and images. Johan Stellingwerf said that the rape charge came after the alleged victim could not pay for the marketing services offered by the company he represented.
