In the Press: Enemalta sells petroleum division to fund reduction in energy bills

Malta will be participating in a controversial operation to apprehend irregular migrants without documentation. The Mos Maiorum initiative involves 25 European countries and one of its main aims is to fight human trafficking.

The debt-ridden More Supermarkets chain is facing bleak prospects as a large energy bill from Enemalta shut down operations at one of its outlets. The chain owes about €50,000 in arrears and the supermarket in Daniel's Shopping Centre Hamrun has had its supply cut off.

Enemalta has sold its petroleum division for about €83 million in order to finance the reduction in energy bills. The government-to-government deal, financed by a bank loan, was not made public.

A poverty study conducted in Valletta revealed that almost half of the population in the city receive social benefits. Valletta joins Cottonera and its surrounds as well as Qawra in this respect, where the number of those receiving benefits is on the rise.

Randolph Debattista, partner of former Labour MEP candidate Cyrus Engerer, has landed a job at Dar Malta in Brussels, according to this newspaper's sources. Engerer's present appointment dates back to June, when he was given the task of coordinating the OPM's work with EU entities.
