The European People’s Party (EPP), of which the Nationalist Party is a member, will hold an extraordinary convention in Malta in the first six months of 2017. This convention was requested by PN leader Simon Busuttil and was announced at the end of a meeting between leaders of the EPP parties in Brussels.

Key EPP party leaders who will be present at this convention include German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajov, and Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.

“This is the first time that the EPP will hold a convention of this scale in Malta, and this will happen thanks to insistence by the PN,” Busuttil said. “Through this gesture, the PN will bring a lot of European leaders to Malta at the same time when Malta will hold the Presidency of the European Union.

“Even in Opposition, the PN is still very much respected in Brussels and is capable of persuading others in the best interest of Malta.”
