Air Malta yesterday announced that it had halved its losses to €16 million, with a financial report showing that it had veered off track in attempts to reach goals set by the EC's restructuring programme. The programme aims to return Air Malta to profitability by 2016.

Thieves have targeted the copper in overhead electricity wires, leaving several households without power and sparking a police investigation into the thefts, which have occurred in the south of the island.
