Enemalta’s power plant in Marsa, to be fully decommissioned next year, was today evacuated following the discovery of an unexploded World War 2.

The 50kg German bomb was unearthed during excavation works which are being carried out as Enemalta is dismantling parts of the power plant that have been decommissioned earlier this year.

Following the discovery police officers and paramedics were this afternoon dispatched on site while AFM members carried out thorough tests on the bomb.

The site has now been cordoned off and the AFM’s bomb disposal unit will be defusing the bomb tomorrow morning before disposing of the bomb in the sea.
