In the Press: Hundreds feared dead as migrant vessel capsizes

PM Joseph Muscat will be meeting Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi in the wake of what is thought to be the worst disaster at sea since the second world war. Some 950 migrants were aboard a vessel when it capsized, although an official death toll has not yet been confirmed.

PN leader Simon Busuttil said that the local council election results proved that the Nationalist party has already achieved much and filled the party with the motivation to keep working towards its goals.

The Labour party took home a 54% victory in the local elections, which were held in 34 localities. PL leader Joseph Muscat said that the party would be working hard to improve on the progress it has already made. 

The Malta Independent

A 29-year old prison inmate, currently residing at Mount Carmel, has begun a hunger strike after permission for him to work at a home for troubled youths was withdrawn. Daniel Lanzon maintains that this was detrimental to his mental health and would put in jeopardy all the progress he had made so far. He is serving a 10-year sentence for attempted murder.
