The European Comission said that under EU state aid rules, it was of no great concern that Air Malta had veered away from the five-year restructuring plan the commission approved. Last month, the airline projected a €4 million loss by March 2016 and breaking even in 2017.

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil said it was time for higher standards within government. Speaking at the Nationalist headquarters, Busuttil said that despite a pre-electoral promise of a 'culture of resignations', the government was drowning in scandal.

The murder trial by jury yesterday entered its third week, with the accused, Nizar El Gadi, taking the stand to testify. El Gadi, accused of murdering his wife Margaret Mifsud in 2012, answered questions about his wife's last hours.

Mepa CEO Johann Buttigieg yesterday said that the development of a yacht marina at Zonqor point was not excluded. Also not excluded was the possibility that building height limits in the area would increase to a maximum of ten stories.
