Environment Minister Leo Brincat has urged the newly elected board of the Environment and Resources Authority to issue a public call as soon as possible for the appointment of an acting CEO.

Speaking at an informal meeting of the board, Brincat said that it was important that the board chooses the environment director but stressed the need for an acting CEO to actively administer the department until a director is appointed.

“I urge the board to issue a public call from the position as soon as possible, “ he said.

All recruitment into the authority will be handled by the ERA and the minister assured that it will also have the final say on who should be a director.

Brincat also said that those on the board have an undeniable expertise and knowledge.

“I believe in the organisation and in the capability of this group and I think that under the chairmanship of Victor Axiaq, the board will be able to achieve its aims,” he said, adding that he trusted that the board would be accountable, professional and transparent.
