Petitions board offers ‘partial waivers’ on fines imposed by the courts
10,000 traffic fines fully waived by petitions board every year since being set up.
The Petitions Board has receives over 68,000 petitions and waived 40,000 traffic contravention fines in the past four years.
The petitions board reviews traffic fines which complainants deem to be unfair. Petitions review fines from police, CCTV cameras, speed cameras and even fines for smoking in public places.
According to spokesperson Joseph Abela, the board can waive fines on ‘humanitarian grounds’ and even give partial waivers when fines have been decided by the Courts.
