4th Podium for Maltese Riders in F.M.I. MiniMoto

The 4th race of the FMI Sicilia Minimoto Regional Championship was held at 'Pista del Sole' at Melilli, in Sicily.

3 Maltese drivers sponsored by Bardhal Oil Additives had a weekend of intense training and bike settings, since Glenn Schembri, Dylan Cauchi and Ryan Faenza had to face a new track when compared with the other Sicilian drivers.

As expected, the competition was more intence since Glenn Schembri and Danilo Sapienza had equal points in the table of the championship.  Pole position was held on Sunday morning where Glenn made the best fastest time of 28.13 seconds on the track. Dylan was third with 28.68 seconds and Ryan won 5th place.  Sicilian driver Danilo Sapienza got second best time with 28.61 seconds.

At 2.30p.m. the race began.  Glenn Schembri immediately took the lead of the race, with Dylan Cauchi following him.  Danilo Sapienza who was third, lost control of his bike, fell but continued the race as he had not damaged his bike nor himself. In the 8th lap, Dylan Cauchi was passed by Paolo Bentivegna. Unfortunately when Dylan tried to regain his position in the next curve, Paolo closed the raceline on him leaving Dylan no space, resulting in the latter to loose control of the bike and falling. He couldn't continue the race since the bike was damaged.  Ryan Faenza made a great improvement in his performance since the last race in July and finished in the second place.  Glenn Schembri won the race with an advantage of 1.2 seconds lead.  Another Maltese driver Dione Farrugia ended up in third place in this class.

The last race of the championship is scheduled for next Sunday 14th October at 'Kartodromo di Triscina' near Palermo.  The Maltese drivers are expecting much greater challenge and opposition from the Sicilian riders who will be racing on their own home land. Surely our Maltese riders are going to work hard to keep Malta's reputation high by achieving great results and other podium places.
