One of the Young Enterprise firms entering the world of social entrepreneurship has devised a mobile and tablet application to encourage children up to the age of 10 to read more.

‘Making A Future Difference’ (MAFD) is taking part in the HSBC Company Programme which is organised on an annual basis by Junior Achievement (Young Enterprise) Malta Foundation, a non-government, non-profit organisation promoting entrepreneurship education, and skills for employability and financial literacy.

Run by nine students from the GF Abela Junior College, MAFD has developed ‘MeStories’, a mobile and tablet application for electronic that targets young children up to age of 10, to promote Maltese literature, encourage young children to read and also inspire young authors to write.

Besides providing a stimulating environment for young children to learn Maltese, MAFD is promoting talented authors and help children gain confidence and popularity in their writing. The app will also feature established and budding authors alike.

The app will feature audio recordings and the script of selected stories, allowing the child to read out the story alongside the recording.

Each story is colour-coded, based on the international book band system identifying stories according to age and difficulty.

MAFD is working together with the University of Malta’s Għaqda tal-Malti to ensure that the stories are presented at an excellent level of the Maltese language. L-Għaqda tal-Malti has also given their contribution by reading out the stories during recording sessions.

‘MeStories’ has been launched on the App Store and Google play at a price of €1.79.
