Chocolate coated streets for Hamrun

The second edition of the Hamrun Chocolate Festival will take place around the village today from 18:00.

The festival will be strewn around the key streets of Hamrun – behind the Police HQ (and the Scouts) and the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Several activities will be taking place throughout the night, including:

• Sculptures, centrepiece paintings, cocktails, body painters and make-up artists – all of which will be incorporating chocolate in their work somehow

• A large replica model of the San Gejtanu church façade made entirely out of Belgian chocolate

• A life-sized dining room which includes the wall, furniture, plates, forks, a clock and chairs, also made exclusively out of chocolate

• A 7-foot sculpture made out of ice and chocolate in the shape of a Juke Box

• Cooking and crafts stalls displaying several items related to chocolate production

• Demonstrations and cooking sessions by teachers from ITS, who will be presenting dishes such as chicken and duck with chocolate. A chocolatier from Belgium will also be giving a demonstration

• Benna will also be exhibiting their chocolate-related products

• There will be an exhibition of arts and crafts at the hall of the Hobbies Society

There will also be live music, a cake competition and plenty of activities for children, along with unique attractions such as chocolate containers from the Victorian era, as well as a re-enactment of Gran Master Perellos’s first taste of the then-revolutionary cocoa drink.

The Hamrun Local Council has made arrangements with the Park and Ride Service in Floriana to ferry visitors, free of charge, to Pjazza San Pawl, Hamrun throughout the duration of the festival. There will also be ample parking available – once again free of charge – on the grounds of the Maria Regina Lyceum, Blata l-Bajda.

The festival starts at 18:00.
