Rob Lowe, a five time Gloden Globe nominee, is currently in Malta to film scenes for Apocalypse Slough, a comedy-drama TV series that will debut on Sky 1 later this year.

Lowe is well-known for his roles as Sam Seaborn in The West Wing, Eddie Nero in Californication, and Chris Traeger in Parks and Recreation.

The series will also star Joel Fry, actor of Hizdahr zo Loraq in Game of Thrones and Jenna Fischer, actress of Pam Beesley in The Office, along with Matthew Baynton (Yonderland), Megan Mullally (Will and Grace), Pauline Quirke (Birds of a Feather), and Paterson Joseph (Peep Show).

The series will tell the story of a group of strangers whose lives collide as an eight-mile wide asteroid plummets to Earth. The characters then try to survive in an underground bunker in the English town of Slough.

Lowe will play a Vatican priest, Mullaly will portray a white supremacist, and Fischer will play a ‘mild-mannered librarian’.

The film will also be shot in other location in the UK and South Africa.

As he met the cast, Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis said that an ever-increasing number of high profile productions are scheduled to take place in Malta this year.

“The local film industry keeps showing considerable growth and is becoming a major contributor to the country's economy,” Zammit Lewis said.
