Communications Minister Austin Gatt launched QuickFocus, a suite of online products by 6PM p.l.c., which brings together productivity and educational tools as well as an email product and e-learning material for ICT and project-management novices and professionals.

The QuickFocus suite launched on Thursday 28 June is split in four categories, namely: productivity, education, self-development, and project management.

All product concepts were derived from more than 25 years of local and international in-practice experience.

Gatt said that was in every country’s interest to invest in the generation of better educational opportunities.

“Through the work of MITA and eSkills Alliance, we have managed to strengthen the link between the ICT industry and all educational institutions.   Through the Alliance, we are collaborating with the ICT Faculty and the ICT Institute at the University of Malta and MCAST respectively,” Gatt said during the launch.

A strategic alliance has also been established with Microsoft by the ministry which will result in the opening of an Innovation Centre focusing on one of the most emerging technologies, cloud computing, according to Gatt.

“Industry-driven initiatives like the one launched today will further guide all current professionals and upcoming practitioners in their careers.  We are open for such collaborations and invite entrepreneurs to increase investment in innovative solutions which support the creation of educational opportunities,” Gatt said.

QuickFocus’s knowledge base, QuickPM is expected to be the new bridge between academia and industry serving as a knowledge network which is ideal for the student, the job seeker, the novice and the practitioner as it gives them the means to interact with experts from within the industry.

QuickPM provides users with a virtual, online Agile and Business mentor.  The knowledge base will be able to guide users when answering questions such as “what should I do?”, “when should I do it?”, “how do I do it?”, “why am I doing this?”, “who should I involve?” and “where am I in the process?”   Apart from the professional tool which is on sale at €29.95, there is also a free version called ‘QuickPM Lite’.

QuickFocus’s productivity tool, QuickPA gives email a new outlook through a virtual personal assistant.  QuickPA offers a new dimension to help users achieve effective time management through automatic email workflows. QuickPA is effective for people working in an office and professionals from various disciplines. The adaptability of QuickPA means that it is useful for both large and small operations; from service call centres managing multiple customer calls and tasks to parents who have to manage their children’s out of school activities.

Ivan Bartolo, CEO of 6PM, said he had been dreaming of translating this vision into a working model for more than a decade and believed that QuickPM was the first brick in the virtual bridge.

“This is a bridge which brings academia and industry closer to each other.  QuickPM is not about 6pm, it is from 6pm to the industry. We will actively be engaging with industry experts in Malta and overseas to encourage them to share their knowledge with our students, job seekers, new recruits and the practitioners,” Bartolo said.
