Admits to stealing €22,000 from priest, jailed for four years

A man who admitted to stealing €22,000 in cash from the home of a priest in Rabat, was this morning jailed for four years by a Magistrate.

49 year-old Anthony Galea who is without a permanent residence, admitted to the theft of €22,000 from the home of Fr. Adrian Cachia in Rabat on November 9. He also admitted to being in possession of cocaine, heroin and ecstasy pills.

Another man, 27 year-old Johann Calleja, who is also without a permanent address was charged as a co-accused to the theft. Calleja was also charged with drug possession.

He denied the charge and was remanded in custody.

Police Inspectors Chris Pullicino and Geoffrey Azzopardi prosecuted.
