Nailed by CCTV, Macedonian couple admit to theft

A couple from Macedonia were handed a suspended jail term and deported for stealing an iPhone from a shop in Sliema.

Miroslav Karafiloski 29, and Kristina Kusleska, 25, both from Macedonia were this morning handed a one year prison term, suspended for two years, and also deported after admitting to stealing an iPhone from a hairstylist's salon in Sliema.

The two were identified to the police by an anonymous caller who recognised them from CCTV footage posted on YouTube.

Police Inspector Jason Sultana told the court that the two were seen entering the shop three times on the same morning, the last time taking the iPhone.

They were arrested soon after the caller told the police that the two worked at Times Square in Sliema.

Both admitted to the charges of theft and for receiving stolen property.

They were remanded in custody pending their deportation, after it was discovered that their passports were expired.
