Elusive former inmate arrested over assault

Former inmate who evaded authorities for two months arrested and arraigned over various charges including assaulting and grievously injuring his former partner.

Police Inspector Sandra Zammit today arraigned former inmate Tony Amadeo Zahra, after the latter had managed to evade capture for over two months.

Being on the police's wanted list for two months, Zahra was arrested in Marsa on Saturday.

Today, he faced charges of having assaulted and grievously injured his former partner Dorianne Abela.

Zahra was also charged with threatening Abela, terrorising his two young children and relapsing.

The incident dates back to 10 November 2013 following an argument between the couple in Mosta.

The former inmate pleaded not guilty to all of the charges brought against him but was remanded in custody after court denied his bail request.
