Thief stopped by shoppers gets away, officers on the hunt

The police are scanning CCTV footage in the hope of capturing a man who tried to get away with an electronic scanner from Lidl, in Santa Venera.

Described by customers on site as “a young, Maltese man”, the thief was allegedly caught trying to run away with electronic equipment used by the supermarket’s staff.

The man was briefly held by customers but he managed to escape by the time members of the Rapid Intervention Unit and the district police arrived.

A search for the man is now on.
