A police inspector who is being alleged of having leaked information from lawyer Dr Lynn Zahra to the Malta Independent columnist Daphne Caruana Galizia, has denied the accusations.

Zahra filed a police challenge on Wednesday demanding that the courts order the Commissioner of Police to investigate inspector Jason Sultana, whom she alleges of having leaked a conversation on a report she filed in a police station to Caruana Galizia.

Sultana issue a statement to the press through lawyer Andrew Borg Cardona, a partner at BCGL with Peter Caruana Galizia, the columnist’s husband.

“Dr Zahra’s allegations are unfounded and there is a declaration in writing by Ms Daphne Caruana Galizia wherein she declares that she is prepared to confirm under oath that what [Caruana Galizia] had published concerning Dr Zarha was not made known to her by Insp. Sultana,” the lawyer said.

A criminal complaint for slander was made against Zahra by Sultana, who said that unless proceedings are taken he will himself submit a police challenge.

“The slander consists in insults and untrue allegations made in public by Dr Zahra against Insp. Sultana. There is pending against Dr Zahra, in connection with that which is mentioned above, before the Committee for Advocates of the Commission for the Administration of Justice, which complaint remains pending as the hearing that was supposed to take place in the past days could not be held as Dr Zahra informed the Committee that she was indisposed.”
