Man in court after making false accusations in a letter to President Coleiro Preca

39-year-old Christian Demanuele from St. Paul’s Bay was arraigned before Magistrate Neville Camilleri this morning.

A court has today remanded a man in custody after he pleaded not guilty to making false accusations about a magistrate, a police inspector and a public prosecutor, in a letter he had sent to the President.

39-year-old Christian Demanuele from St. Paul’s Bay was arraigned before Magistrate Neville Camilleri this morning.

Demanuele, a company director from St Paul's Bay, pleaded not guilty to making the claims in a letter which he had sent to the President in March.

Police inspector Saviour Baldacchino told the court that the police had investigated the letter’s allegations but found no evidence to support them.

The precise nature of the allegations and the identities of the people against whom they were made remains shrouded in mystery, with the court taking the charges as read and summoning the prosecution and defence lawyers to the bench, where the matter was discussed in hushed tones.

No request for bail was made and the accused was remanded in custody.

Lawyer Abigail Bugeja was legal aid.
