20kg of cannabis recovered from Xwejni Bay

A plastic bag filled with cannabis was retrieved from the sea yesterday after divers in Gozo alerted the police to the suspicious package.

A patrol car from the Gozo Mobile squad was stopped by a group of divers in Xwejni Bay, Zebbug, Gozo, yesterday. The divers claimed that they had just found a suspicious container close to the coast.

The container which was inside a black plastic bag was handed over to the police. It was later found to be containing about 20kg of what is suspected to be cannabis resin.

The duty magistrate appointed several experts to assist in the inquiry.
