A 20-year-old man was denied bail and remanded in custody on Sunday after he was charged with trafficking cannabis and slightly injuring some people on Saturday.

The court heard how Mohammed Galgia from Gambia approached an off-duty policeman in Paceville and attempted to sell him cannabis.

Friends of the off-duty policeman attempted to restrain the man until the police arrived. The accused allegedly threw away the drugs in his possession and eventually escaped.

He was caught by the police shortly after.

The man pleaded not guilty to both of the charges brought against him, but was denied bail.

Inspector Matthew Spagnol prosecuted, while Mark Mifsud Cutajar appeared for Galgia.
