Alleged serial fraudster arrested in Britain, to be extradited to Malta today

A Maltese man has been traced and arrested in Britain after jumping bail and spending months on the run from justice. He is to be extradited to Malta later today.

David Coleiro, who has a number of pending criminal cases related to fraud, jumped bail some months ago and was untraceable.

His wife and family suffered the consequence of his absconding as a number of debtors reportedly appeared on their doorstep and police had to be called in to protect them.

Coleiro had originally absconded to China but never returned, and the Maltese embassy in Beijing had found no evidence of his arrival there.

The Malta Police Economic Crimes Unit subsequently issued a European Arrest Warrant for the man, and was traced by the Metropolitan Police in the UK.

David Coleiro was arrested and kept in custody in Britain and officers have now left Malta to accompany him to Malta where he will be charged and remanded in custody at Corradino Prisons.
